Xavier has developed his research and teaching activities since 1973 at the University of Barcelona. In 1985 he became Associate Professor and since 2003 he is Full Professor. In September 2017 he will become Emeritus Professor. During these 44 years Xavier has dedicated his research on various aspects in nuclear physics structure, heavy ion reactions and cold atoms. This research has produced around 180 publications in the form of journal articles, book chapters and contributions to conference proceedings. Particularly fruitful is his research developed during the last years on the nuclear symmetry energy. Xavier has led five national and international research projects as principal investigator. During this period he has directed four doctoral theses. Mentioning in particular Dr. Mario Centelles Aixala: currently Professor at the University of Barcelona; and Dr. Xavier Roca-Maza (co-directed with Dr.Centelles): now working as Assistant Professor at the University of Milan. Xavier has also been responsible of different post-doctoral researchers benefiting from his expertise as it the case of Drs. S.K.Patra, Tapas Sil, M. Warda and B.K. Sharma. All of them have obtained stable positions in their countries of origin after their post-doctoral activity with Xavier. Finally, a very important aspect is the scientific collaboration with other groups and researchers around the world: L.M. Robledo (UAM Madrid), S. Marcos (U Santander), P. Schuck and M. Urban (IPN Orsay), J.Margueron (IPN Lyon), P. Ring (TU Munich), G.Colo (U Milano), M. Baldo (INFN Catania), C. da Providenca (U Coimbra), K.A. Gridnev and V.B. Soubbotin (U St.Petersburg), J.N. De and S.K. Samaddar (Saha Institute Kolkata), A. Bhagwat (CEBS Mumbai), S.K. Patra (IOP Bhubhaneshwar) or T.R. Routray (U Sambalpur) among others.
